What is a Charcuterie Board?
Charcuterie is a French term that refers to all the meats that are cooked and preserved by curing, salting, smoking, and drying. Most people associate charcuterie as a meat and cheese board, grazing board, appetizer board, or snack board. You’ll likely see these at a holiday party or even your next party! People love these because there’s a variety of flavors and types of food and tasty treats. The best part is that they don’t take a long time to prepare and it can be a great way to feed a large crowd.
There are no hard fast rules about how to put together a perfect charcuterie board. A Charcuterie board consists of various food items like soft cheeses, hard cheeses, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, and a variety of meats. On this board might be different accompaniments like different kinds of dip and spreads. It’s entirely up to you which of your favorite snacks, kinds of cheeses, and meat products you wish to use. Sometimes the most unique ingredient can take it to the next level.
You can use a wooden cutting board, round board, tray, or parchment paper.
Popular items: goat cheese, blue cheese, seasonal fruits, cherry tomatoes, red grapes, kalamata olives, hard salami or other harder meats.

Exquisite Cheeses
You’ll definitely want to check out Murray’s Cheese, Eataly, or a local cheesemonger for best selection and quality. I was able to get the below cheeses from a local Foodcellar. Not all grocery stores will send the higher end cheeses. Definitely keep your eyes peeled, especially if there’s a sale at your local grocery store. Feel free to add your favorite cheese.
- Manchego with Truffles: Balance of classic nutty flavor and a decadent, slightly pungent flavor of black truffle. This cheese is made in La Mancha, Spain. Made from raw sheep milk and aged 12 months.
- Gouda with Truffles: Rich, milky, nutty Gouda with black Italian truffle. From Gouda, Holland. Made from raw milk and aged 6-9 months.
- Moliterno Al Tartufo: Earthy and rich in flavor. Laced with long streaks of luxurious truffle paste. This pecorino is best snacked with honey or paired with red wines. From Sardinia, Italy. Made from raw milk and aged 6-9 months. This is the most expensive cheese of the bunch and it’s absolutely worth it!
- Fromager D’Affinois Truffles: A double cream brie with an intense truffle kick. Spreadable and indulgent. Made in France.
- Lioni Burrata con Tartufo: Delicious creamy panna di latte and pasta filata mozzarella with blended Italian black truffle. Very light bubbling of fermentation on the tongue.
- English Stilton: The only non-truffle cheese on the plate. It’s dense, chewy blue, earthy and aromatic. Cheese is from Nottinghamshire, England. Made from pasteurized milk and aged 2-3 months. My British husband insisted on crashing this party! Pairs well with chocolate.
Total cheese cost: $79.34 (NYC)
